Oh wow! the things we take for granted - ie no FBL controller. Check out the funnels @ around 2.00! This guy must have been a gun pilot for his time....

I only used an old-fashioned yaw rate gyro on this heli when I flew it for this video back in 88.

That's all that was available back then. We have it easy today comparatively speaking.

Flybarless in 88? That thing looked pretty stable!

Relatively easy today is understatement, even with a Hirobo SDX using a heading hold gyro and a flight sim, I struggled

Only when I got my hands on a Mikado v-bar I started to fly properly.

Today with v-bar, we are spoon fed and babied.

So where can an inquiring mind find a diagram of that head? I'm curious to know how you worked that out.

I was waiting for it to go inverted or something :D...very classy flying indeed. You make it look so easy, and to think that most would've problem flying a flybar assisted heli. What happened to the Legend name? And the company?

Here is the instruction manual for the Legend. Please remember we didn't have CAD programs back then and everything had to be drawn by hand.

I did stunts with this FBL head around the world at airshows however for this video we were aiming towards the average hobbyist at the time and showing how smooth the Legend fly's.

I am retired from the industry now but I had a lot of fun when I was younger as you can see by this photo taken over in England.

Could hang around pioneers like yourself listening to your experiences and not have a bored moment.

Thanks, we had a lot of fun back in the day. Everything was fresh and new if you catch my drift.

The hobby today has evolved tremendously and I'm happy to still be able to fly.

      Good times continue :)

Ah! Bell/Robinson type semi-rigid rotor system with the "tetering hinge". Now I can see why some would seek out your rotor system (as I have read) for scale models such as the Bell 206.

So am I correct in assuming that because of the see-saw hinge in that rotor head, it effectively turns the rotor itself into a fly bar and eliminating the need for an external fly bar such as the bell-hiller type mixing setup?

Not exactly but it does help some. Still not as good as a 3 axis gyro system especially in windy conditions.
