A couple of weeks ago, we went to TORCHS helicopter ( where OHB is held) in Orlando, Fl to do some flying. Out of all the flights I made that day, this is the only one my husband filmed.

Thank you, HeliGods. No, I can`t get him to even look at a helicopter. I think he`s scared of crashing..lol He is into RC ground vehicles though. 1/10th and 1/18th scale short course trucks and buggies.

On road or off road. Cars are cool but to race competition I found
that helis are cheaper..long as crash doesn't pay you a visit.lol
It appears we now know who is the tough one in the relationship.
      Don't tell you hubby I said that.hehehe

Really nice moves there Geena, the funnels, the pirouettes during transitions and the fast backwards flying mixed up with the rolls which were very straight I might add. What tricks are you working on at the moment?

Yes, the trucks and cars are a lot of fun too. I have two 1/10 scale short course trucks and a 1/10 scale buggy, which I have a blast with. I bought them so I could run them with my husband when he runs his :) Crash does come to visit me from time to time as well. The only person who never crashes a helicopter, is the person who never flies a helicopter :)

Thank you, Smackmeharder. I guess flying every day is paying off a little. :) Right now, I`m working on pirouetting circuits, tic-tocks. Both aileron and elevator. I can do them, but MAN are they ugly lol. I tried ( on the simulator) to do piro flips, and quickly realized I am nowhere near ready for that yet. I did discover nose over walls about two months ago too. I have been doing those only a few feet from the ground (I`m trying to build the nerve to get all my flying alot lower) and it`s a lot of fun. The plankers don`t like it though, it scares the heck out of them. LOL.

Thank you, Collie Farmer. OHB is like a mini IRCHA for us down here. Last year, I think we had 300+ registered pilots. Rachel Plant from England even came over to fly with us. The Mini OHB is coming up soon too, in May.

Hi Geena, 3D heligod has some tutorials coming up which are a bit different than most tutorials you see on the internet. Have alook at his tutorial on tick tocks and you will see what I mean. He uses indicators to help let the pilot know how to control the helicopter in any position. So he not only shows the technique, but identifies the subtle moves and what to focus on to control the maneuver from any position. I used to struggle with tick tocks, now i can perform them skids in and move them in any orientation just by using the indicators he pointed out.

I`m not a good enough pilot to compete, but I will be attending the Space Coast helicopter fun fly this coming weekend. I will be attending several more before IRCHA as well. :)

Do you want to compete? you have some good symetrical moves there and probably some good mentors around you no doubt...

In my area, I`m pretty much the only helicopter pilot. But I do get to go up to TORCHS once in a while and hang out with the guys up there. Lots of talent at that field...Bobby, Bert and a few more top pilots fly there. Competing one day, would be great, but I have quite a way to go yet to get to that level.

Hi Geena. I too flew solo for along time and had no mentor in order to progress my flying. Hence I had to analyze every move in a way in which I could understand. We will try and help you be creating a tutorial for the trick you want to learn. I saw above you want to learn pirouetting circles. These are deceptively hard, and change depending on what direction you are performing the circle and what direction rotation. I can piroflip both ways (one way better than the other) and still struggle with pirouetting circles in all orientations. If you want to learn this trick pick only ONE direction and ONE rotation. The tail should turn into the circle. Re your tick tocks, only one thing makes them better.... practice and more practice. Learning to see how the helicopter responds to the different type of tick tocks lets you understand the maneuver better. Another good trick to learn is funnels in all orientations upright and inverted. This is good because it helps you understand pirouetting circles better.

      + 1

He is my mentor and his information is solid.. it's not until later on that you fully understand why he says some of the things he says, lol .. Like funnels in all orientations upright and inverted and also tick tocks in all orientations and even figure 8 tick tocks , it all locks control into your brain seeing the heli in different orientations and really helps a lot with progressing onto pirouetting circles for example, So you then have control over them.

So may people move onto a trick and cant get it because they don't have the basis of control in all orientations.. It really is key to everything.. So important but seems so low level and simple to a lot of people is hovering in all orientations up right and inverted. sounds simple, but it unlocks a lot for future progression, It's really helps ..

Good luck .. Sim Sim Sim ...
